we have a pt at our unit who transferred from hemo to p.d. He never fully completed training, has failed to complete necessary paperwork required for our dept and Medicare, does not come in for monthly appt, refuses to meet w staff to understand what the issues are and returns our certified mailings to communicate w him. He states "he doesnt like our dept". His DR colludes w/him & states he will try to monitor him but the patient is inconsistent in f/thru with him also. Pt does however want continued supplies delivered to his home. We want to terminate services and request he seek services elsewhere which is readily available to him in the area he lives, but our legal dept fear we are abandoning the patient and hasnt supported us on this We feel he is making a choice not to utilize our service and therefore it is not abandonment. In the meantime we are paying for supplies and cont to have them delivered. The nurses are especially nervous that we are supplying him epo and dialysate but not closely monitoring him. Any sugggestions are greatly appreciated!
Frustrated staff to be sure!!!
