Should the decision not to start dialysis be left up to the individual, or should people be urged to try dialysis?

I've just encouraged someone to try it to see if she feels better... but now I'm not sure if that was the right thing to do.

I think you were right to encourage. The patient can always stop but it is hard for a uremic patient to make a good decision. After they are more stable, less anemic and less uremic they will be in a better position to think clearly and make the decision that is best for them. Many studies have shown that it takes several months to "clean up" the patients system to the point where they can learn better and "think" more like themselves. You were right to encourage.

Thanks for your input... the decision is up to her, but at least I did try.
