The FDA has recently issued a Safety Alert about possible machine/patient contamination from leaking tranducer protectors. Following that, Althin recalled all of their Q set blood tubings. Is it the TP's or the blood tubings or both ? They said in the Althin Recall letter that the maker of the blood tubings is Nissho. They don't say who makes the transducer protectors. Are these transducer protectors on other blood lines ? If I get my blood lines from some other company are my patients safe ? Am I ? What should we be doing to protect our patients? What is the risk to the staff ? Can you help me sort this out Mary ?
Concerned, I'm a current user of Althin equipment as well as there tubing. I posted a reply to your posting on nephroworld. Check over there. I'm under the impression that it is just with Nipro Medical tubing who makes tubing for Althin. Althin is suppose to exhange our tubing for another brand during the recall, so it must just be the one manufactuer. Ryan

I've been servicing dialysis machines for years in a variety of dialysis units. Over the years, i've found blood in the internal arterial and venous pressure lines in lots of machines. I always thought it was the nurses running the machines without transducer protectors . They always denied it. Looks like we might need to update of maintenance policies.

I have heard that a number of lawsuits have been filed on behalf of patients that believe they have been harmed. Has anyone heard the details?
