So the people were switched by the nurse and ran 40 minutes. Their blood was pitched. One asked if anything was wrong, they told him "no". The manager opted ? with the doc? to not tell either patient. Renalin disinfects but does not sterilize. What are the rules for patients exposed to body proteins / bacterial contamination of other patients?

It's clearly against regulations. TWO checks are supposed to be made! They are done where I go. Two staff members reveiw the info. on the dialyzer, sign and date it, and double check my name and ss # with me, before starting treatment. If it was done to me or I witnessed it done to another patient, and they didn't immediately rectify the situation I would report the unit, and the specific personnell involved!

It was bad enough that the wrong dialyzer was used but then they had to lie to the patients and tell them nothing was wrong. I think that all of the employees of the center that were involved, including the charge nurse, if she knew what happened, should be terminated. Any other employee who knew about it and did not report it, needs to be put on probation, suspended, written up, whatever disciplinary action that center uses. This is inexcusable. These two patients lives were potentially put at risk.

I eventually figured out that I could report this to the compliance unit of my hospital. It took them a week but, as of today both patients have been informed.
