I need help ! My father, 7 days ago under went surgery to have his last kidney removed due to a large tumor growth. Doctor has my father on dialysis. My concern is that he has not been able to keep food down. He has been having dialysis treatments and they don't seem to upset him but the smell of food does ! Is that normal at first ? What would be good to feed him now. he is still in the hospital. My email: pamscottclift@msn.com
Thanks, Pam

Pam, please let the nursing staff at the hospital know that you want to see the dietitian. Then, let her know of your concerns regarding your father's intake. There are supplements available while he is in the hospital which may help to jumpstart his appetite. He is probably a little uremic, at present, and it is not unusual for patients to go through a period of time when they have nausea, vomiting and decreased appetite. The important thing is to let someone know so they can get started on it early.
