My mother just started hemodialysis three weeks ago. She now has a kidney diet to follow on top of the diabetes and high blood pressure diets. When she first got the new one, the dietician handed her all three and said "here, you see what you can do with them". Each one contradicts the other and so far dieticians and nutritionist haven't been a great deal of help. Any suggestions? Is the kidney one now the most important?

Hi:

In all likelihood, the kidney diet is the most important. Your mother's diabetes may well be responsible for the kidney failure and it, in turn, can cause high blood pressure.
That's not always the way things go, but it is a possibility.
Your mother can ask the dialysis nurses taking care of her or direct specific questions to her nephrologist/doctor.
Other readers of this siet may have other suggestions.
