I have taken Phoslo for about two years and it was working. My doctor changed me over to Renagel about a year ago. I was taking six capsules with each meal until they came out with the 800 mg. About a month and a half ago, a rep from Renagel came out to our clinic. Our doctor has changed nearly all of the patients over to Renagel. All of us are unable to get the 800mg dosages now and have been told they wont be available until late June to mid July. How can a company go out and promote their product and just a few weeks later be out of it for over a month? I think this was a ploy on the companie's part. Now I am forced to get twice as many of the 408mg capsules and end up apying more money. I am very tempted to ask my doctor to put me back on Phoslo.

Mick,
Got a letter last week that the 800 mg. Renagel is now available again (thank heaven!). I would be sure to ask what your calcium & phos. levels are when on Renagel- fairly often I see a drop in the calcium level when someone is changed to Renagel, and there has been no high calcium level previously. Some patients have been on a combination of renagel and calcium based phos. binders, with good results. I don't see any sense in changing a pt. to renagel, and then placing them on a calcium supplement because their serum calcium drops.
I think that renagel is an excellent product for those patients who have problems with high calcium levels, though.
