I have one kidney. (The other one was removed about 10 yrs ago because of a congenital hydronephrosis as the doctor says My creatinine is 1.6. Blood pressure normal high end, 130/80.
What can I do to 'preserve' and/or minimize the stress on my one good kidney. I know that lots of H2O, low Na, good weight, exercise are essential. What about other things such as protein, fat, etc. ALSO, please direct me to articles relating to
one kidney studies on the web. THANK YOU!

Hi Tony:

There was about a one-year gap between the removal of my kidneys, but then I had polycystic kidney disease (PKD). Followed normal dietary restrictions for patients with renal failue - low protein, etc.
You'll want to take a look at the following site that deals with persons with only a solitary kidney:
www.kidney.ca/solit-e.htm

Hope that helps.
