Which of the following cause hair loss?: heparin, procardia, zemplar, calcijex, epo, or IV iron, or ESRD and dialysis in general?

The nurses at the unit I go to told me that Heparin can cause hair loss among other things. I looked it up, and sure enough it's listed as a side effect!

I used the Nursing 2001 drug handbook, and looked under adverse reactions for all of the drugs mentioned above. In this reference book, none of the drugs listed below stated hair loss as a possible side effect.

I do know, however, that a general overall vitamin deficiency and poor health has been seen with a loss of hair. If things are not going well on diaysis, or you have other issues going on, this could be the cause of the hair loss.

Have you discussed the issue with your physician?

Wow I have asked my doctor and others aobut the cause of hair loss and other symptoms like blood loss and no one attributed it to heparin. The govt. info. certainly states otherwise!
