There are two types of dialysate used for hemodialysis: bicarbonate or acetate dialysis. Acetate dialysis is not used much any more.
Bicarbonate dialysis is performed in most US, Canadian, and European settings and has been shown to be gentler on the body. The terms themselves refer to the type of dialysate used in the hemodialysis process. Carol |
