Hi - I am a renal technologist from South Africa. We are doing a full chemical disinfection (sodium hypo or peracitic acid, depending on machine) between patients. What are the protocols for disinfection in your units? Thank you kindly for any advise.

We do not disinfect between patients. We do Heat disinfect every night, except for Thursday nights, we do bleach.
Once a month Renalin disinfect.

We have Fresenius K machines.

Thank you for your reply RCIT TECH - do I take it that you only rinSe in between patients, and if so then for how long? What is the HIV and Hep C protocol?
Thank you again - I need to find the most patient and staff (not to mention manufacturer) friendly protocol out there.

No, we dont rinse either. We only do tests in between paitents. This is Fresenius by the way. we do not test specifically for HIV or HEP C, we just use universal precautions with everyone. We only isolate Hep B, and disinfect that machine just like all the others, unless it's being pulled. Hope this helps.
