I'm writing a paper on the topic of reuse Vs nonreuse and the benefits and drawbacks of each. Here's the response I would like from anyone who can help:

#1-can you direct me to any research papers or hard data to prove reuse shortens the life expectency of the dialysis patient? I'm not looking for passionate responses, only conclusive data or studies

#2-incidence of first use syndrome with the more recent dialyzers (last 10 years or so)

#3-what are the benefits of reuse and the benefits of nonreuse

#4-what are the disadvantages of reuse and the disadvantages of nonreuse

Thank You for your input...

I will be happy to mail you some information that will answer some of your questions.

Data from the USRDS is rather conclusive that there is no difference in mortality whether a center is reusing with formaldehyde, with or without bleach, with peracetic acid or using single use dialyzers.

I will be happy to discuss it with you if you will call me at 800-523-4123. You can give me your address at that time. If you prefer email, you can email me your address.

My email is hudoss@aol.com.

Any patient who has changed to non-reuse will tell you...no headaches, no night sweats, no shock from chemicals, no sudden drop in iron stores or hematocrit, no more weakness, no more death as a quality of life. Anyone promoting or supporting re-use has a vbested interest, and has no relatives on dialysis.
