I concerned about the practice on my unit re: antibiotic infusions. The practice is to give after dialysis is over and free flow the abx into a needle. I'm used to pumping abx or using a flush bag to piggyback into. Are there any quidelines or practice statments re this. Thanks
Oh and I forgot to mention there is no policies re this either.

Some antibiotics are dialyzed out during treatment, therefore need to be given post dialysis. Why don't you research and write a poicy and bring it to the manager if you have a better way? We usually piggyback antibiotics into the venous port and put the machine into bypass if it's a dialyzable med. Or, piggyback the med into a NS bag attached to the access post treatment is another way, but you have to keep an eye on it.
