I am an RN in New Zealand. My husband is a type 1 diabetic on CAPD. He has a persistent dry hacking cough which we are unable to find a cause for. He is not taking any medication with a reputation for causing cough. The cough causes him distress and we wondered whether this happens with CAPD and if there are any tricks to control it? Does anyone out there hava some magic to share? Thank you.

Hi, Katharine.

I personally have never had anyone complain to me about a dry cough, however, I have had complaints about a wet cough that has been directly related to fluid volume issues. Is it possible that your husband is not at his ideal dry (target) weight, and some of the fluid is captured in his lungs?

Is this an allergic irritant? New soap, pillow, anything of that nature?

Good luck! Let us know how things work out for you.... Does anyone else have other suggestions?

Thanks Carol
No Bernard's at his target weight so it's not fluid overload.
