What is everyone doing when they break the clamps on their patient's tunneled dialysis catheters? I currently work in an access center and we are seeking a simple solution to broken catheter clamps. We do not want to perform a cath exchange nor do we want to purchase repair kits. Both of those options are costly and impose undue risk of infection to the patient. We only have this problem with patients at one of our dialysis units. I guess the nurses are trying to break the clamps. Anyway, I have seen in the past many nurses use a clamp which is supplied with some PD products from Fresenius. I just do not have enough information to order any of these.
Any ideas or suggestions?

The clamp you are looking for is called BETA-CAP clamp and you should be able to get them from Fresenius or a PD supplier. We have used them in the past and they work great.
