We are looking at bloodline sets. Some come with an injection port, some without injection port on the primming set. Can anyone tell me what the benefets of having an injection port on the primming set would be? What are other clinics using? I would like to hear your comments on this. Thanks Nettie

We are using the Medisystems High Flow blood lines. One of the the many things we like about them is the fact that they have a priming set that has a "Y" connector rather than an injection site. This is handy to have when we need to give blood transfusions ( though this happens only once or twice a month in our clinic). The main reason we like this priming set is with the "Y" connector we can rinse the patients back using a closed return. You disconnect the arterial bloodline from the patient's access and attach it to the "Y" on the priming set. You turn the blood pump on and the return is quick, clean and very efficient ! It eliminates the need to squeeze the bag to return the section of the blood tubing between the patient and the saline tee. We love it !
have you noticed the IV spike on that new line set is different. We use Baxter 1000 bag of saline. the old spike is much easier to insert and unspike. I have pulled so hard at times it felt like I jumped and landed hard like bones in my upper body crushing. The spike has three small holes rather than one larger diameter hole. If your facility has both spikes do a comparison and let me know what you think.
