I would like to know how other units are staffing RN's, LPN's and Techs. What is your staffing ratio? How do your RN's get time to keep up with Medicare-required paperwork each month? Do the RN's co-sign notes for every treatment on all patients if notes are done by LPN's or Techs? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Please include size of your unit. Thanks so much.

PCT usually 4:1. Most time 1 RN is plenty. How hard is it to give 15-20 IV injections in a 4hr. time frame? Don't give me assessment crap, how come an RN can do an apical in about 10sec., being a medic I was taught it required 60 sec!

WE have 2/1 ration nurse to patient in the aute dialysis unit, when a PCT is scheduled with RN we do 3/or 4/ 1 nurse with the tech, if the patients are staggered and stable.
ICU ration 1/1 nurse.
hope that helps ___________________________________

Can't compare the acute setting to chronic at all - apples and oranges. These days in the chronic setting it is usually 1 RN to 15-18 patients and 4:1 PCTs. Problem is, there are no set standards to ratios - networks can suggest but nothing is etched in stone yet you will get cited if the number of staff per patient shift is more than 4:1. Quite bogus if you ask me. 1 RN to 15-18 patients is ALOT. Regarding the post from the medic - your training is NOTHING compared to RN's - sorry. Taking care of all those patients at once is not just assessments and meds. You must check all the pt's settings; UF, EDW, conductivity, pH, everything. Typical EMT attitide -
