I heard there was a recall of the Nipro Safetouch fistula needles. Isn't this the second time this has happened with this needle ? Has anyone heard about this ? Has anyone had any problems with these needles ?

Go to the XXXX and see the official letter announcing the recall of the XXXX needles. The needles were coming apart ! I heard a needle actually got separated from the hub while in the patient !

This looks like that Nipro has fixed this and will be back on the market soon. I cant wait as we tried all of the safety needles on the market. and we love the nipro ones. The others are to bulky.

We use safety needles from XXXX I think. From a patient's point of view they are disastorous! The tech must jerk a plastic part which results in a jerk to the needle. It hurts and scares me everytime. I want the tech to be protected but a safety needle that operates like this is painful and is not safe!!!

XXXX said they "fixed" the problem the last time these needles were recalled. I for one will not be inclined to use them again unless the design of the needle has changed. The same problem twice requiring a recall is enough for me. I will not put my patients safety at risk with a needle that might come apart in their arm !

I recently spoke with a representative from Nipro regarding their needles. He said the plastic deteriorated due to being stored too long and the needle did break apart. However, the plastic was being changed and had to be retested and reapproved by FDA and it may be summer 2003 before the needles would be reintroduced. We NEVER had any problems with the needles and we are looking forward for the rerelease of them
