Saline replacement is the only approved method of alleviating cramps in our unit. Prevention is the key to minimizing cramping during treatments. Assessment of weight gain can be pretty tricky detective work at times, and often is rushed especially at turnover time. Does anyone still use mannitol?

Any osmotic does the trick whether it is mannitol, dextrose or normal saline.
