I have worked at the same unit for many years and have never been docked for my lunch break until now. I can not leave the building (only RN present) and get interrupted many times and think this is illegal to dock my pay. Thanks for any help.

I think that it is the norm rather than the exception to add 1/2 hour onto the work day (8 1/2, 10 1/2. 12 1/2) to accomodate lunch. I have never thought of this as being "docked" for lunch.

I agree w/ you, susan. If you are not being paid, you should be able to leave if you want: it is your time. Otherwise, they should pay you for the time.

Contact your state's Dept of Labor. Each state has different laws.

The law states you must have uninterupted meal time away from the job (even if you have to remain in the building)otherwise you must be paid for the time.
