Our 8 station unit has had several cases of reported bad air quality resulting in staff being off sick, and no amount of engineering assistance can resolve the issue. Does anyone here reading this have a similar experience, and if so , how did you resolve it, and what was causing the bad air.
Please email me :

thanks

In the past few years I have had this happen at my former employer, which was a 5 station acute unit in a very nice hospital. Some of the staff would tear up,eyes and throat burn and get sinus woes that cleared up when they were off. We had the air tested (negative) by an air quality engineer. We had them shampoo the carpet in the hall when we were off.Nothing helped until they increased the negative pressure to the unit and we opened the doors to increase airflow.
Now I have changed jobs due to having moved, and I learned from the new employer that clorox and vinegar mixed together create chlorine gas which is highly caustic. I have wondered if that might have been the problem. It can be just the fumes, not only the liquid.Just a thought.......

We are currently having problems in our 25 bed unit with air quality. 8 nurses so far in the last few weeks have ended up in er with increased blood pressure, racing heart rates, sore throats, hives and itchiness. An air quality test showed elevated levels of toxic volatile organic compounds. Nothing so far has been done to alleviate the problem. We are in an older part of the hospital with very poor ventilation and by the end of the evening shift the air seems to thicken.
