We use Fres K and K2 machines without BVM or Crit-Line monitors and I am looking at getting a Crit-Line monitor for my acute unit. I have NO experience with either. Do they perform the same function? Any thoughts or comments are appriciated.

We use BVMs in acutes and Critlines in outpatients. They do perform the same function. BVMs require a dedicated blood line and critlines use an adapter added to the blood line. If you want to do blood volume monitoring on all patients use the BVMs if not then the critlines. That said, the critline adapters have been recalled and are not available for an indefinite time. The BVM bloodline are available as they already went though their recall a few years back. I would choose the critline, you can move it from machine to machine but who knows when you'll be able to get the adapters again. Also, since FMC now owns Critlines, I think BVMs are going to become a thing of the past.
