I am cruious about the use of chlorhexidine gluconate (Chloraprep) as a topical disinfectant for catheter exite sites. CHG has wide acceptance in other areas of healthcare but does not appear to be widely used in dialysis. Does anyone have experience using CHG for catheter care and do you have any comments about the cost/benefit?

Olddog,
I hope I'm remembering correct, but I think we switched to 'Alcavis' products. Some catheter materials were not compatible with the chlorahexadine, causing cracking, & some pt reactions to betadine.
