After working 15 years for a non-profit dialysis unit,I have recently been told that our unit may be sold to a for-profit company. I am having a hard time deciding if I want to change positions at a co. that I have 15years of service with, go to work for a new co, etc.I am very anxious about this. I am looking for feedback from anyone that this has happened to. Does anyone have some pros and cons to offer regarding this???

Betty,Make sure that the benefits that you have will carry over,or get paid for them now.IE;vacation pay.accrued sick pay etc. Also be aware that the corporate companies have different policy and procedures and new positions will be created ex.inventory tech, water tech.equiptment tech.
Keep your eyes open and be aware that your patients are also worried about the change.

Watch out for for profit companies. They care more about the bottom line than the patients.

Check this out. It an article about a clinic in
Champagne-Urbana Illinois. The clinic is managed by a for profin NY based company. They are partly owned by a for profit company, the "Worlds largest provider of dialysis services".

Just recently, last week as a matter of fact, a Gambro facility in N.J.was ordered closed due to ongoing patient health and safety issues. Apparently they were surveyed and several conditions of participation were not met. When resurveyed, again this was the problem. as a result CMS has ordered them closed and 80+ patients need to go elsewhere.

it can be a good thing and a bad thing, I started out at a hospital non-profit unit and then we were sold to a "for profit" company and then sold again with in two years. The company I work for now is an "at will company" meaning we work at the will of the company. They have the right to let us go at anytime with out any reason. My position now is very unstable and changes almost every six months, this is upsetting to the staff and patients, and it seems that the management lives in a different world. Do as much as you can to find out
about this company. It can very hard to go along with the changes they want to make. If you are a RN you have choices as a Tech you really don't.
