Is anyone here worried about what President Obama is going to do with Medicare/Medicaid? It has our unit worried.

More hopeful than worried. We already lose our butts on those treatments, can't get much worse. Healthcare in the US is broken. We spend more and get less--unless you work in insurance, then you make the $. The only people who want the old system to stay are rich or afraid of the boogieman thanks for FOXnews.

It's broken and you really think more gov't involvement is the answer???? It's obvious that you know nothing about the gov't track record on effeciency and service!!!!!

-I bet you get a misguided warm fuzzy feeling when you hear the gov't say "don't worry, we'll take care of you,....you will now be covered under our plan!!!"

Do research. Look at administrative costs of Medicare as a % of gross, then do the same for "for profit" insurance companies. It will amaze you.
The public plan is IN ADDITION to com. insurance. What's wrong with competition?

Plus, have you noticed what the "free market" did to our finance system and wall st.? That worked out great, huh?

I don't think it's fair to place all the blame on Wall Street. Let's not forget all the knuckleheads that were buying McMansions while they worked at McDonalds. Just because someone gives you a loaded gun doesn't mean you should shoot yourself.
The fact is that Medicare covers a small portion of our population right now, and is pretty much insolvent right now. Where in the world is the money going to come from when we provide wholesale medical coverage to everyone? You think the goverment takes too much from your paycheck now, you aint seen nothin yet. Is anyone out there impressed with the composite rate your clinic receives from Medicare? If we did not have commerical payers, we could not exist, period.

You are mixing different issues. Yes, Medicare is insolvent under current structure, I was discussing efficiency of administration, public vs. private. Please note the details. The Public Option is not the same as Medicare. I agree about the McMansions, except SOMEONE GAVE THEM THE LOAN. I'd say the Finance companies are better educated on loans than the average person. The collapse was caused by the selling of the derivetive securities. If the originators of the loans had held the loans, the crisis would not have run out of control. Wheelers and dealers came up with bundling.
I have no issues with the taxes I pay. I like having roads to drive on and the NIH doing medical research and schools for kids and safe food and a military and yes SOCIAL PROGRAMS like ESRD!!! How about you? Do you use any of the above?

Please also note that the Public Option is in addition to commercial insurers. Why do conservatives like competition until it hits their wallets?

atech, ...are you really that clueless??? Afraid of competition?....are you talking about from the gov't??? Read the freaking constitution will ya!!!! "Gov't by the people"....WE ARE THE GOVT. Why the heck would we want to compete with ourselves? Pay in to private insurance and then have to subsidize our competition ,....- the gov't insurance- with our taxes! If you think it won't put private out of business- you are clueless! We currently have thousands of choices when it comes to healthcare plans/companies and that's because of competition in the private sector. Eventually, -you won't have but one option, - the govt. option! You will be like these other countries with socialized healthcare! You think they have options???

You can be sure of one thing, - if we end up with universal healthcare we will have lower quality, fewer choices, higher costs, a bigger deficit and more gov't. bureacracy!
I bet though that you think healthcare is a RIGHT.......now don't you?

Clueless is a good name for you! I would like to know what you think should be done? When I was watching the President on TV last night talking about healthcare I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him. This is a big problem and all we have is people complaining instead of trying to find answers. I personally have no clue what the answer is. I sure wish I did though. Meanwhile I'm not going to whine and complain about people who are trying to find an answer. At least they're trying. Let us know what the answer is and we will all be happy. One thing you can not aurgue with is the statement that the president made, if we do nothing it will only get worse!

You admit that you don't have a clue what the answer is but yet you call me clueless! How ironic! Your being naive to so heartily support and trust in something when you admit to not having a clue! Your thinking with your feelings not your brain! By the way, - don't mistake that for compassion, -it isn't!
. I belong to the 85% of the insured,
and though not a perfect system, -most of us are satisfied with our healthcare coverage and for you class warfaremongers, -we in the 85% can't all be "THE RICH"! Socialized care isn't the answer!

By the way true compassion is reaching in to YOUR OWN POCKET and giving to someone! -not having the gov't. reach into someone elses pocket to give!!! Also know that it's a known fact that us conservatives way outgive liberals through church, charities, missions, and other orgs.

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves .

William J. H. Boetcker , 1916 (often attributed to Lincoln)

I concur conservative. I have been paying for other people to go to school, feeding them, and housing them for way too long. It's not a choice anymore. I would love to donate but it's hard to donate when it's being taken from you. The U.S. no longer stands UNITED. We are segregated even more than before, just with rules. As far as the poor destroying the rich, I think that everyone is destroying this economy. This has been going on for a long time. Look at "Conservative"'s post: "1916", folks that's almost a 100 years of warning. WAKE UP!!!
