How does one prevent hypotension between treatments. During treatments it is basically in 110 or 90 systolic...or therebouts,, however, until the next treatment it remains low in high 80s... The patient is urinating, labs are basically ok except for a slight low protein.... appetite excellent with lots of snacks,,, .. should this be taken into consideration when the staff want to take off fluid to get to dry weight? pt is new to dialysis of six weeks...
no edema, lungs ok per doc...is it appropriate to address this with the staff...intake over a weekend is only 1200 cc as he does not like to drink... but does eat ALOT>>>>. therefore, why take off 1400.. i dont get it... and, am not well educated on dialysis... thanks. |

You are absolutely correct in your thinking. How much urine output does the patient have every day??? How much weight does he/she gain between treatments. Also, is the patient on any Blood Pressure medications? Generally, most patients are given a fluid allowance of 1000 ml Plus their amt of urine output- per day. If the patient does have a good output, which many new patients do have, he/she may not be taking in enough fluids. Also- often pts need BP medication before dialysis starts, but once fluid is removed, adjustments need to be made. Does this make sense for your patient???
