My nurse manager states that her previous ICU medical director told her that the use of Trendelenbur position for managing hypotension was pointless. Has anyone else heard this, but more specifically in relation to managing intradialytic hypotension? Should we "old school" RNs be changing our gold standard for dealing with low BPs on dialysis? thanks

I think you NM either misunderstood or her previous mendical director is way off base. While trendelenburg does nothing to correct the cause of the hypotension, it does help keep the patient from passing out. Trendelenburg uses gravity to do the same thing that a flightsuit does for a jetfighter pilot, it forces blood from the lower extremities up to the brain and vital organs.
