Hi! Peace and Goodwill to everyone! I just want to know if there is a right time to give the IV Iron(ferrous saccharide)during hemodialysis. I've tried to check the written drugs in our unit which are dialyzable or not,but I can't find ferrous saccharide or the like in that list. I'm working here in Oxford for only 4 months and i'm not yet used to this drug, coz, were not using this drug in the Philippines where I used to work. What i know about this drug is that it should be given 30 minutes before end of dialysis, but some say that you can give it anytime. So can you help me clarify this thing please..thanks.

It is not dialyzable. You can give it anytime during the treatment. Also, the slower, the better.

Thanks to Marc H and Ben A, since it's not dialyzable, I can give it anytime during dialysis, coz you know,it will save us time coz during the last 30 minutes of treatment most of the patients are coming off the machine at the same time and sometimes if the person who's going to take the patient off did not check the drug chart, the patient miss the IV iron dose and it happened so many times. Thanks again for replying, it really make sense. BYE!

Seek Ferlicet. Many are allergic to ferretin. Either way, never allow the nurse to push it all at once. Some centers use a small drip bag, some an auto pump. Be aware, reations can be disasterous.
