Most often the failed kidneys are left in the body with no problem. However, Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) which I had can cause the kidneys to grow enormously and must at some stage be removed. If PKD was not the cause - or even if it was - Id ask my nephrologist for a further assessment.

Kidneys now can be removed by keyhole - or laparoscopic - surgery. Its a breeze.

Best,
Mike
