I received the following e-mail from a patient and I won't disclose the name for privacy but it gives hope that some things can be done.
Hi, I will be training for home hemo at the center I currently have standard thrice weekly hemo dialysis. I learned of nightly home hemo through research on the internet. My transplanted kidney was going down the tubes so I questioned my renal doc about these 2 forms of dialysis. He agreed that both are better for the patient in several ways and are the future of dialysis. There is 30years of research detailing the benefits of daily and nightly hemo. I suspect that not all docs would be eager to take on this challenge and it is a challenge. Nothing is in place for us-there is no procedure to follow. I will be the first patient in St. Louis doing this. Fortunately help from you, Barbara Pickett and a Dr. Lockhart in Va have helped us with many of our initial questions.

I am new to this message board and just read your post and wanted to reply....I am 26 and have been doing Home Hemo for almost 2 years ..I am the only person in doing this form of dialysis and my renal doc pushed it from the beginning I love it..I dialyize 4 times a week instead of three and I set my own schedule I travel all the time and have had very few complications...I was wondering about the person in your post I have information about the nocturnal dialysis and wpuld be happy to share it...Also when I started to train...I did not have any training materials I had to learn hands on and take lots of notes and research things on my own...I took all of this information and made a training manual ...I felt it would be good for anyone on hemo to learn more not just to train but general information....I just wanted to share this information ... and wanted to say good luck to the person in the post... thanks

Hi Mary Lou:
I've written a couple of articles dealing with my experience on home hemo under the "Your Words" section of this site.
If there are any other questions I might be able to answer, please e-mail me here or at mallan_1999@yahoo.com
I received a transplant about two months ago and am convinced hom hemo sent me into the operation in better shape and has contributed to my receovery.
