I don"t want to preach, but the results I've had using Omega-3 fish oils over the past six months are somewhat amazing. I found Omega-3 while looking for an answer to itching post-tx. In November, my skin had deteriorated to a degree of dryness that small cuts and dry patches were never healing and even the stick spots from the canulae took ten days to heal. I started taking 1000mg a day and now take two caps, 2000mg. My eneergy level has increased by 75-100 %, I know this from physsical performance trials. My skin is back to how it was five years ago before dialysis. I've cut heparin use in half, down to 5000 from 10,000 units, and most amazing, my blood pressure average has dropped 10%. I can recommend this to all patients, can be found at any drug store, does not interfere or interact with any meds. Like to hear from anybody else who has tried it. feel free to ask any questions, I'd be happy to share my experiences.

AS an acute dialysis registered nurse, I caution you to please consult your your physician BEFORE taking any vitamins/holistic/herbal over-the-counter medications. Fish oil may interfere with the bodies ability to control bleeding among other side effects.

While I agree you should check with doc, another side benefit of fish oil is that it will lower your cholestrol, I am not a patient but an employee whose spouse used fish oil to drop cholestrol 100 points, not bad.

I'm a dialysis patient, and as such am on Heparin, among other meds.. Would there be any special concerns in taking Omega 3 for someone such as myself?

Can you provide a medical reference showing Omega-3 is safe for dialysis patients?
