Can someone tell me how this works.I think I need it and my RN doesn't know how to set a program for me. Also sodium modeling. I don't come in with anymoe than 2kgs, but feel jittery in my legs and feet 2 hours into my tx. I've raised my dry weight and have no other dryness symptoms.
Toni, Lots depends on the dialysis machine in use. If your nurse doesn't know, than you need to talk with your center director (Nurse in Charge). Profiling can help lots of patients in different ways. Let me know type of machine...Good luck. Bill

My Charge nurse is the one i spoke with. We don't have any nephrology trained nurses so they only do one form of profiling and don't know how to do the other available programs. Their knowledge is very limited. We have Althines.
[Hi Toni if your nurse can't deal with the machine profiles , so we can go by making it two cessions : first two hours with no Uf then resitting the machine for another two hours with uf. good luck

Start your dialysis by adjusting the machine for two hours with no UF.Then after adjusting it for another two hours with UF of your 2 Kg increase in weight. you get it? ]

First of all, I run 3.5 hours. What is the point in not running it at all for the first half of the tx, and then starting the UF? Wouldnt the UF have to run harder to compensate for the two hours it didn't run? What would be different in the body to make it a smoother run?
Hi Toni - We use the Althin machines and it depends on the software version of the machine you use as to whether or not you can profile the UF. I am not sure where the previous reply came from, but I would do it a little differently. I would start out by raising the UF to a higher rate then stepping it down over the run. For example, if you have a total of 2.0 kg to lose, you could start out at 1.0 UF rate, then go to a .6 after the first hour, then coast at .25 the rest of the run. But don't forget that you need to add in the rinse back and whatever you drink. The UF profile on the Althin is very easy to use. If it is available on their machines, I would suggest that they get a Baxter rep up there to teach them how to use it. We have had great success and patients love it. Especially those that gain too much fluid! Hope this helps. Ruth
