My sister is a Canadian who has recently had both her kidneys removed due to polycyctic disease. I would like her to come to the US to continue her care. She has had many problems with the medical system in Canada.

Her husband is a willing match for kidney donation. They have resources and could pay for medical care. Is she too far along for her care to be undertaken by a specialty center in the US?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Either way it is up to her. No it is most likely not too far along but if her husband is a match then she might as well get it done in Canada where it is completely covered shouldn't she?

I live in Canada myself even though my boyfriend is in the States. Even though the wait on the list is longer in Canada than in the States .. it is more costly in the States if a Canadian doesn't have coverage.

YOu can access any major dialysis chain in the US for treatment and follow up for transplant .

Just ask for any social worker or clinical manager in your area at one of the local dialisis centers Fresenius and Davita are two major ones off hand that may be able to help

good luck

Hi Marathon:

I, too, lost my kidneys to polycystic kidney diease (PKD) and live in Canada.

My kidneys began failing while living in Vancouver and I later moved back to my hometown of Toronto to join the then relatively new nocturnal dialysis program.

After my transplant, I returned to Vancouver and have always had excellent care, with all costs paid for by the national health-care system.

Could I ask what difficulties your sister has experienced?

Was she living in a smaller community, perhaps?

Thanks,

Michael
