on Oct. 2, my mom was sent to the ER from her dialysis center to get an EEG, the ER dr. and mom's dialysis dr. decided to do a complete workup on her before we got to the ER.
Well, 2 hours later the ER dr. comes in and wants to know why mother is on dialysis because he doesn't see anything wrong with her kidneys from the blood test.
The ER dr. calls the dialysis dr. and she (dialysis dr.)tells him (ER dr.) that she will have a 24 hour urinalysis done to access her kidney function.
On Oct. 10, my mom begins this test and takes it back to the dialysis center on the 11th. Today the dr. told us the results and that she could not be taken off the machine.
The dr. said she takes the creatine level (my mom's is 12) and adds the urea level (my mom's is 15) and then averages the two numbers....my mom's average is 13.5.The dr. said not enough to be off the machine.
Later i talked with a man that has a fistula in his arm and has had it for 2 years but has not been put on dialysis yet, i asked him what his kidney function was...he said 10%.
I was told when my mom was diagnoised with kidney failure that she had 2% kidney function left. Today the way i understood (or misunderstood?) the dr. was that my mom has 13% kidney function....if that's right, and a man with 10% hasn't been put on dialysis, then what's the deal? is it a different % for men than women? is it just the fact that she is already on dialysis?
I was fine and accepted what the dr. said, until i talked with this other man--that has even less function than my mom...now totally confused.

Hi Dreamer:

Look at the exchanges under Secret. You're both seeking the truth.

Best,
Mike
