I'm a hemo patient and lately I've awakened in the morning on two different occassions with swollen looking eyelids andpuffiness all around my eyes. It looks like a mack truck ran over my face or I got stung by a slew of bees. After a time, it all settles down and I'm back to normal. Has anyone on hemo ever experienced this? Could it be a form of edema? I have felt perfectly well and didn't think I had any edema at all.

Fluid moves with gravity. You have some excess fluid. Watch your intake cut back on salty foods and try sleeping on 2 pillows. They fluid will not end up in your eyelids. It may show up elsewhere.

Hi! Indeed excess fluid is likely the problem. Reducing salt and fluid will likely help you might find that sleeping with two pillows will reduce puffy eyes and the fluid will end up either in your abdomin or you ankles. Another way to raise you head is to put blocks under the head of your bed, it might be easier on your neck.

Thanks so much to both posters for your replies. I never overdo on fluid or sodium, but apparantly it doesn't take much to get some edema. I may of had most of my sodium allotment for the day, at my supper meal rather than spaced out enough. Don't know if that matters. Haven't had another bout of this since the two times. Will be mindful of your suggestions.
