I am looking for information regarding spread of infection, handwashing, and data that will support the necessity and demonstrate graphically the need for proper infection control. Any materials, videos, websites, etc would be appreciated

There is a word for infections or injuries acquired in a hospital or resulting from the actions of healthcare workers: nosocomial - as in "nosocomial infection" or "nosocomial injury". It is pronounced - NOSE oh COE me ol - (approximately)

Here is the comprehensive guide of handwashing: APIC Guideline for handwashing and hand-antisepsis in health-care settings, AJIC 1995. This is a huge PDF file. The guideline is from the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (web site).

Here is a search result of the MEDLINE database at the National Library of Medicine for handwashing and nosocomial infections.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has The National Nosocomial Infections Surveillance (NNIS) System.

Here are Seven Guidelines for Preventing Healthcare-Related Infections from the CDC.

Here the Universal Precautions guidelines from the National Institute of Health.
