My mother has been on dialysis since January 2000 and hair on the back of her head has broken off. It is not a bald spot, but the hair is very short. I do think her hair is thinner also. The woman who cuts her hair said the medicine may cause this and there is not much my mother can do about it.
My question is, could there be any kind of vitamin therapy that would help?
Someone had mentioned that it could be the type of Heparin that was used during treatment (Porcine vs. Bovine) I've yet to ask the Nephrologist about this. One Dr. has told her that he hair will come back.

Dear Garcy; I too started dialysis aroud the first of October and also had a big problem with thinning hair. My physicians said it probably was a result of the trauma . It has since started coming back in good shape,{wavier} My internist said it would be about a four month cycle and he was pretty close to right.I am a 67 year old male.

During my time on dialysis (approx. four years) my hair thinned out slightly and lost all of its curl. No big deal.
Now that I've received a transplant, I've been told that some of the anti-rejection drugs might cause "short-term" hair loss - or additional hair on some other areas of the body.
The key phrase, I think, is "short term." I've seen many transplant patients say their hair eventually returned to better-than-normal conditions.
