Bob:
Having trouble sleeping can be a real problem. However, sleeping tablets can lead to even more serious situations. Many doctors are quick to prescribe Ativan (also sold under names such as Lorazapam and Noctamid, etc.). However, the drug should be taken for only a short period, almost never more than a week. Ive heard of people using other methods like meditation or herbal medicines to overcome their sleeplessness. Discuss it with your doctor, but dont hesitate asking questions about anything he might prescribe. Best, Mike |

Bob,
There have been many great articles written on how to overcome insomnia. Some suggestions I have red include: a)keeping a sleep diary. Maybe you are getting more sleep than you realize b)go to bed and get up at the sme time everyday -- even weekends. c)avoid caffeine, heavy meals and exercize just before bed. d0make your bedroom more condusive to sleeping -- right temp., dark etc. d)keep your bed just for sleeping -- no reading or watching tv while laying on the bed. e)allow yourself only 20 min to fall asleep then get up and find something to do until you are feeling sleepy again. Good Luck! |

Hi:
Dont forget about homeopathic remedies, as well. Depends on your situation. Best, Mike |

I believe disturbed sleep patterns are related to something within the dialysis tx that is off. I say this, because on days when my tx has been frought with lowered bps and other symptoms, my sleep goes haywire that night. On dialysis days when there are no problems with tx., I sleep like a log that night. I do not not have any sleep problems on non-dialysis days.
