No it can not. It is a rare condition.

Your posting caught my attention. My sister was diagnosed with Barters Syndrome and was given rx's to compensate for what she was "spilling". Unfortunately, after her kidneys failed we learned that she had not had Barters and her symptoms were indicating FSGS. And, yes it is extremely rare, and even more so in an adolescent - my sister was 34 when she was "mis-diagnosed".

Tania, I have Barters. Yes, it CAN be passed on to your children, it is a genetic disorder. It is EXTREMELY rare that it happen though. It is less likely to pass on to a boy than to a girl. When I gave birth to my daughter, they tested the Chord blood and found it was negative for any Potassium problems! She is clear.
