does anybody have an idea on why clinics still use pure ultrafiltration? with the new machines and also the benefits of more frequent dialysis, why bring in a patient just to take fluid off? Why not just give them an extra treatment? thanks for any imput.

From what I understand, pure UF at the start of a treatment is primarily for patients who have a large amount of fliud weight to be removed. Apparently, removing some fluid first from the blood cell without clearing any toxins allows the patient tolerate large amounts of fluid weight removal without the side effects which may occur,(cramps, low BP).

Many clinics will find that a PUF is not reimbursed unless it is followed with the rest of dialysis treatment.
