I work at KU Dialysis and if I was to become a patient or have my own mother I would strongly recommend KU Dialysis. We have a wanderful team work and most of all, we enjoy our jobs. For more info call our nurse manager @ 913-588-6062.

Does KU offer incenter self care? More frequent incenter treatments? Home hemo? More frequent home hemo - daily short home hemo and/or daily nocturnal home hemo? Does KU provide the PD option? Does KU have a maximum incenter run length? What is the standard run length at KU? Does KU reuse dialyzers? What patient training does KU provide? Do KU patients self stick? |

from what i have read on this message board it sounds like most dialysis units are nightmares.. i am having experience presently with a new unit, fresenius... less than 8 months old, i believe... the clinical director is great and a wonderful nurse who does care.. her hands are tied due to staffing etc... and, yes there are problems, but thank god, nothing like what i have heard in this message board, i guess i should thank God that we found this unit..

[ My Dad is at a new Fresenius Unit and I have to say, from the horror stories I have heard his care is great. The staff are well educated, take time to educate, watch for s/e and complications and the doc is fantastic. Having worked in healthcare, for some 30 yrs, I am very critical as well as observant of delivery of care... I think we lucked out and I thank , who ever is above watching out for us....... Fresenisu is all over the world and they have units all over.... they also have a website... but, from a nurses view point, i am very pleased..... ofcourse, it depends ont he staff, that is the bottom line.. if the facility has goodstaff that is greatQUOTE]Originally posted by Anne:
Any suggestions where I can locate a quality dialysis unit? I would like one that offers well educated staff, choice of modalities (home hemo, daily, nocturnal), strong patient education, clean, good asceptic, allows food and drink, other perks. Please don't suggest Dialysis Compare. I've talked with numerous patients who say it does not reflect the true nature of their units. Looking for a more personable source for recommendations. Thank you in advance. [/QUOTE] |

I must add something... Recently, I was speaking with several of the staff at my father's unit. As in everything, there is good and bad....
I believe, with all my heart and companies have reputations,, however,,,, the bottom line,, and it IS the bottom line... all depends on the staff.. You see, I have seen facilities that have wonderful reputations,, but again,, if u get a bad staff person, who cares about the reputation.. I suggest visiting several units,,,, tell them what your needs are.. i.e. education, kindness,,, to ensure that there are no complications during or after dialysis,, someone who cares.... etc........................ also, tell them u want to be part of the team... meaning,, the patient has a voice in their treatment with the doctor and staff..... |
