December 12, 2001 - This week's issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) has a paper on the use of a real-time computerized decision support system for prescribing drugs in patients with renal insufficiency. This use of computers in medicine helps address the problem that usual drug-prescribing practices may not consider the effects of renal insufficiency on the disposition of certain drugs.
Here is the abstract of the article entitled, "Guided Medication Dosing for Inpatients With Renal Insufficiency ".

This week's issue of JAMA also includes a Patient Page on Kidney Failure.
