November 2, 2004 - The first test in humans of a bioartificial kidney offers hope of the device's potential to save the lives of people with acute renal failure, researchers at the University of Michigan Health System report. Press release via EurekAlert.
Here is the November 2004 update on the bioartificial kidney device invented by Dr. Humes that is being clinically evaluated for treatment of patients in acute renal failure. One of these physicians, H. David Humes, a professor of internal medicine at the U-M Medical School, will be using a $1.4 million corridor grant to test a new therapy for patients with chronic kidney failure who dialyze three times a week.
