Medical Manager provides the most widely used dialysis billing software. Both Fresenius and TRC use Medical Manager. See story.
Medical Manager's competition will now be the Healtheon/Web MD company that results from this merger announced May 19. See Medical Manager's web site here. Mickey Singer started Medical Manager with a Commodore PC that he fooled around with at night. Mickey was an economics doctoral candidate at the Univ of Florida when he dropped out to be a carpenter/building contractor in the mid 1970's. One day, one of the doctors that he did some construction work for was telling Mickey that his billing staff was having trouble keeping things straight. Over the next few nights, Mickey wrote a little billing program for him on his PC. The doctor liked it and recommended it to an associate of his. From that humble beginning it continued to grow to today's $1.4 billion dollar purchase. Mickey is a unique individual. He meditates daily and is a vegetarian. He collects Chinese impressionist paintings. He still doesn't wear ties. It's only been the last five years or so that he started wearing shoes regularly. When I met him for the first time in his office in 1992, he was wearing shorts, a T-shirt, and flip-flops and had hair nearly to his waist. I guess he still likes to build things as he also designed and oversaw the construction of his company headquarters in Florida. Congratulations Mickey, Richard, Barbara, Rick, Sandy and the rest of the Alachua crowd. [This message has been edited by Gary Peterson (edited 05-20-99).] This message has been edited.
