September 25, 2002 - Researchers reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine that for patients with long-standing renal disease, earlier consultation with a nephrologist and more frequent specialist encounters is associated with lower mortality in the first year of dialysis.
"Nephrologist Care and Mortality in Patients With Chronic Renal Insufficiency" - abstract from Archives of Internal Medicine September 17, 2002 - Kidney disease patients are at a much increased risk of death when they have delays getting to a specialist, a study appearing in the Annals of Internal Medicine shows. Delays occur more often among black males, the uninsured and those who have multiple illnesses. Summary from EurekAlert. Available on-line: "The Timing of Specialist Evaluation in Chronic Kidney Disease and Mortality" - abstract from Annals of Internal Medicine Here is another summary of the study from ASCRIBE NEWS/Northern Light.
