April 3, 2002 - June, July and August will soon be here. It's time to plan for summer camp. Many nephrology nurses and nephrologists volunteer their time at camps that provide specialized medical services for children.

There are now dozens of camps that provide dialysis care during one or more of their summer sessions. Check the camp schedules carefully for the availability of dialysis services. Space is usually limited.

The National Kidney Foundation web site has a Kidney Camp 2002 Directory with 32 listings. Use it to locate the camp nearest to you.

Listed below are some of the summer dialysis camps that have web sites:
Camp Okawehna in Tennessee provides a week-long summer experience, during the first week of June, for children suffering from kidney disease.

Here's the Kid's Camp web page from the National Kidney Foundation web site for Oregon/Washington. The Kidney Kids Camp 2002 will be held August 16-18 at Canby Grove Conference Center, located 20 miles south of Portland, Oregon.

Camp Sunshine is located on Sebago Lake in Casco, Maine.

Boggy Creek Gang Camp is in Florida, 40 minutes north of Orlando.

Camp Riley and Camp Isanogel are in Indiana.

The Marcia Lortscher Vacation Kidney Center of the Rockies is in Colorado.
