I was wondering if anyone has had IV Venifer given to them and what are the risks if any to this procedure.

Susan:
I took Venofor (not sure of spelling) for several years while on home hemo. The iron comes in glass capsules (thats the biggest hassle, getting them open). It is then withdrawn with a syringe and inserted into a saline bag connected to your fistula, catheter or whatever. Having it done for me and Ive done it myself. Never caused a problem and was usually quick in doing its job in raising your iron levels.
Best, Mike

Venofer does not come in glass vials in the US. Ferrlicit continues to be supplied in the vials.
We have been using the Venofer for a year at the home dialysis unit at which I work for the past year. We've experienced wonderful results!

Hi
Out of curiousity, how is Venofor delivered in the U.S.? Plastic pouches perhaps?
