My husband just went through ringing in the New Year at the ER and in surgery and taking 5 different IV antibiotics. I wrote before trying to find out,if anyone knows how often PD catheters get bent on placement and end up infected before they are ever use for PD. His was in for 2 weeks,2 days it never was patent but they kept trying to instill saline when he went to hemoialysis. Now he has an open wound requiring dressing changes and he's depressed because he will not be able to take a better position at his job. He has been told they can try again in 6 months

I am so sorry to hear of your husband's recent problems as a result of his PD catheter insertion. It is really difficult to ascertain, from your note, the true cause of this complication. I would strongly suggest discussing this with your husband's nephrologist, as well as the PD Nurse at the unit where he was to do PD. Often, the PD nurse who cares for many other PD patients has insight into these issues, and can provide you with a better understanding of the situation. The good news is that this can be tried again in six (6) months, and there is a chance your husband will be able to be on the therapy of his choice.
