I would like to know if any pd patients are experiencing memory loss. I've been on pd now for about 3 1/2yrs.Is this typical for renal patients? will this get better? will this memory loss get worse? what has been your experience? my doc says that it's what happens to all of us when we get older, I'm only 42!
Please,Please respond!
Thanks,KAT

Sorry to say but my husband has been having memory loss for about 2 years now--his general physicain attributes it to the amount of toxins that built up in his system before dialysis was started-his Neph doesnt deny that this may be true--actually the memory loss has worsened over time in his case-such as he cant drive because he can not remember how to get back home ect--one opinion-dont get discouraged--good luck

I would ask a few other questions regarding your memory loss. Many patients who are underdialyzed (PD of Hemo) have memory loss, especially short term memory, difficulty concentrating, and sleeping. This seems to be from toxins. Also a lower blood count (hemoglobin) can also effect this because the hemoglobin is what carries the oxygen to your brain. You could talk with your Neph about increasing your treatments. If you are CCPD, do you also do 1 midday exchange? There are several ways to increase the exchanges so talk with the MD/nurses. The will not resolve immediately. Ask you doctor to review all your medications to see if any of them could be causing a problem.
