Sounds to me like your dad is underdialyzed--are these the same symptoms he had before starting dialysis? Three exchanges per day is one less than the standard of 4 per day--unless he is small framed with considerable residual kidney (doubtful after 1 year), he most likely needs more dialysis to clear poisons from the blood--this buildup causes anorexia, nausea, itching, confusion, fatigue, etc. Maybe you should ask the doc or PD RN if he is getting enough dialysis. He DEFINITELY needs to eat more protein!

I know exactly how you feel. My dad has been on PD for 18 months now and everything has suddenly gone haywire. He too quit eating for a while, however, his appetite has returned. But he says that he feels nauseous 24/7. He won't do anything anymore even though he is basically doing great. His blood pressure and sugar are so good that he doesn't even have to take medication for them anylonger. He also developed dry eye syndrome which is a nightmare. The doctors say it is not related to the dialysis, but he did not develop this until he had been on PD for 12 months. I am at my wits end. I just don't know how to help him. Any new info you might have would be greatly appreciated.

hi Theresa
Thank you for your concern and am deeply sorry to hear about your dad.
Well my dad expired this january 18th after 2 and half years of Dialysis.its been a hard time for me and my family.
Anyway i just have to say ...you have been taking good care of your dad..nice to hear that his blood pressure and Sugar normal.my dad didnt have those dry eyes like you say...but yes he had a low blood count...and his eye used to look white. Well dryness is mostly case bcoz of low water content in the body ...try to give him water proportional to your dialysis...i mean intake and outake....that might help.
well ...I shall pray for your dad..hope he gets well.
dont loose hope ...keep going ...keep him happy
